Abstract

Two-level injection-locked opto-electronic oscillator (OEO) is firstly proposed to get lower phase noise in this paper. A low-phase noise oscillator with single mode from a long-fiber based OEO injection-locked by a commercial microwave source injection-locks another long-fiber based OEO. Experimental data show that the SSB (single side band) phase noise at 10 kHz offset frequency of X-band OEO decreases from -121 dBc/Hz to -135 dBc/Hz after the first injection and to -146 dBc/Hz after the second injection. Such index is close to the reported index from America Naval Research Laboratory. In order to promote the OEO to the practical stage, a new stability circuit based on the phase-locked theory for OEO is proposed and verified by experiments.
