Abstract

In the case of disaster, victims often become wetted, and many times, victims have to keep wearing on wetted clothes. Then wearing on wetted clothes may cause the hypothermia. The authors measured the heat loss, ratio of contacted area on human body and adhesive force with wet clothes to investigate the thermal insulation characteristics of clothes materials. The heat loss with wet cotton exceed about 30% by with wet wool. The ratio of contacted area of wet cotton on human body is about 3 times of the ratio of wet wool. The adhesive force of wet cotton is also about 3 times of the ratio of wet wool and other materials. With these results, disadvantage of wet cotton underwear for thermal insulation is shown. When the clothes become wet, it is danger to wear the cotton underwear on bear body. It should be exchanged for outer wear except cotton materials.
