Abstract

Aseries experiments was performed to find the fundamental aspects of the force acting on the ground rope in towing. Two types of models; rectangular plate and cylinder were used in the experiments. The motion of the sand on the bank which was formed by the ground rope in towing was observed. The volume of sand on the bank was calculated both with the results of measurements taken and a theoritical method based on the sand cone. Theoretical values agreed with calculated values. The force acting on the ground rope was almost proportional to the volume of bank formed by the rope.
