Abstract
Biopyriboles are a famous examples of polysomatic series minerals. Recent progresses in studies on a variety of biopyriboles are reviewed. Many triple chain silicates with some different chemical compositions of optical microscopic and/or electron microscopic sizes were recently found to occur widely in various geological occurrences, and so, these new biopyriboles can be regarded as one of the important rock forming minerals. Many HRTEM studies on biopyriboles have been carried out and provided many useful data regarding the formation processes of the minerals. Unique structural features of biopyriboles indicating the records of the mineral process are also summarized.
