Abstract

Cattle positive for antibody against ether-sensitive envelope glycoprotein antigen retained the antibody, the titer of which remained unchanged during the observation period. Antibody against ether-resistant core protein antigen was variable in cattle. The former antibody was considered to be transmissible from dam to young.Cattle infected with leukemia virus were always positive for isolation of virus from peripheral lymphocytes and for production of C-type particles from cultured lymphocytes.Vertical infection was hardly induced. Virus isolation was indispensable to verify the infection of calves. Cattle became positive for antibody, as well as for virus isolation, when they were housed in the same barn as the infected ones for 14-23 months.
