Abstract

From 1988 to 1991, we treated 127 cases of extremity fracutres in our general hospital. Eleven of these cases occurred in our hospital and the others were transferred from other hospitals, old peoples homes or elsewhere. The average age of patients was 75.6 years. Mental disease or cerebral palsy was noted in 92 cases. The majority of fractures were caused by minor trauma such as a fall. There were 116 cases (85%) with fractures of the femoral neck. For prevention of fractures during hospitalization, more cautious medical management, and nursing control should be carried out.
