Abstract
Bartholomew (1959) proposed a test against ordered alternatives of treatment means. His test was derived as the likelihood ratio test in the one-way analysis of variance model. However, the statistic is also characterised as the maximum of an infinite number of ordered contrasts. In this article we show its applications to pairwise comparisons and simultaneous confidence intervals of contrasts. Necessary statistical tables are given.
