Abstract

Case 1 was a 31-year-old male with extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) in the right maxillary sinus, who had no evidence of tumor 31 months after irradiation.Case 2 was a 16-year-old female with EMP on the left side of the nasal septum, which metastasized to the left superior cervical nodes 5 weeks after irradiation.PAP technique revealed that the tumor cells of Case 1 produced IgA-A chains and those of Case 2 produced IgG-K chains. Both patients underwent surgery and irradiation. For the metastasis of Case 2, the chemotherapy with Melphalan, Cyclophosphamide and Predonisone was administered before and after left radical neck operation, and there was definite regression of the tumor. These two patients were compared at several points and found clear hi.stological differences. In H. E. stained slides the tumor cells of Case 1 appeared to be welldifferentiated plasma cells, and those of Case 2 appeared to be less mature cells. This suggested that even in EMP the maturity of tumor cells affects the prognosis.
