Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to show the results of surgical treatment of subtrochanteric fractures of the femur with special reference to the relationship of the type of fracture and the method of osteosynthesisDuring 1980 to 1989, 32 patients were treated surgically and all the cases were fresh wihch means within one month after injury. The type of fracture was determined according to Seinsheimer's classification of 8 types. The results were evaluated roentgenographycally. The methods of osteosynthesis were compression hip screw in 17 cases and Ender in 15 cases. According to our evaluation, 7 cases (21.9%) had poor results in which 6 cases were treated with compression hip screw and 1 case with Ender. There were no relationship between the type of fracture and poor results. Our results suggested that, Ender's operation is more preferable compared with those with compression hip screw for the high union rate and lesser traumatic surgery.
