Abstract

The non-dimensional quantity m=M/1/6BH2σc can readily be obtained from Fig. 9 for various combinations of d, k, η and r=σt/σc, where M is the failure bending moment, σt and σc are tensile and compressive strength of the material, while the other notations can be understood by Figs. 4 to 7. The procedure to draw Fig. 9 is shown in Fig. 8, in which the (number) attached to the curves correspond to the No. of equations for m. The cases when the equations may be applied are also represented by the corresponding No. added under the Figs. 4 to 7.
