Abstract
Coal is one of the most important energy alternative to oil. From the point of the medium and long term view, it is essantial to promote the expansion of coal utilization.NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organizaion) has studied the problems of the expansion of coal utilization and has suggested to promote “The COAL RENAISSANCE CONCEPT”.This concept consists of five basic ideas;i) expansion of coal utilization based on the technological innovationii) improvement of image of coal (change into clean coal)iii) arrangement of distribution system and coal manufacturing industryiv) continuous promotion of R&D for coal utilization technologies
