Abstract

To examine temporal changes of snow structure, dielectric properties of snow cover were measured with a parallel-line capacitor. The capacitor is composed of a pair of copper pipes (1 m long, 3 mm in diameter) with 10 cm insulator-separators. The capacitor set on the snow surface was buried under subsequent snowfalls. Hourly measurments (8 frequencies in 100Hz10kHz) were carried out at Kanazawa-city from January 29 to February in 1995. With the elapse of time, increase of capacitance at all ferquencies was observed. Temporal changes in loss factor were noticed in the first 3 days, then gradually decreased, Changes in dielectric properties were discussed with snow density and structure of snow cover.
