Abstract

We studied the clinical features, treatment and disease course in a group of older age onset RA (ORA) patients, defined as disease onset after age 60, and compared these findings with those in a group of RA patients whose illness began at a younger age (YRA).The sex ratio in ORA contrasted with female predominance in the YRA group. The ORA group tended to have more arthritis in the shoulders and less in toes, and was more likely to have a positive RF. There was no significant difference in treatment between these two groups during the course of their disease. The outcome of the ORA group assessed at the last visit was the same as that of the YRA group.
