Abstract

A visual lookout support system for operation of collision avoidance maneuver with Head-up display (HUD) has been under development. This system provides a superimposed collision avoidance information on HUD, which is designed to be substituted for a compass repeater enabling to see both collision avoidance information and actual target ship, simulataneously. Simulator experiments were performed to decide functional requirements on the shipboard support system (P-1) to be tested under actual navigation conditions. Based on the requirements from the experimental results, P-1 has been designed and built.
