Abstract

It is said that egg-laying capacity of hen is most great in the 1st year and it used to decrease gradually in the advancing years. Good-laying hen is, however, desirable to show her capacity continued in several years which her ability is possible to lay eggs. The Poultry Farm of the Cornel University, U. S. A. reported wondenful bird, R 1149, the singlecomb white Leghorn hen which layed 1515 eggs throughout 8 years (1927-'35). There appeared another good-laying hen, L 123, the single-comb white Leghorn, at the Higo Poultry Husbandry Experiment Station in Kyushu, Japan, which layed 1438 eggs in 8 years (1929-'37).These two records show that the single-comb white Leghorn hen in good strain is able to lay about 1400-1500 or more eggs in her life-time which will surely encourage the breeding work especially for egg-laying purpose.
