Abstract
A 47-year-old-male complaining of painful swelling of the cheek and neck, as well as trismus and dyspnea, was sent to our department. CT scanning and ultrasonography revealed subcutaneous infection with gas production that had spread into the deep neck. Surgical drainage was performed, and Peptostreptococcus was detected. Punctures were performed several times, guided by ultrasonography, because the swelling of the cheek had continued and small abscesses were found subcutaneously. Ultrasonography is useful not only in obstaining diagnostic information of subcutaneous infections morphologically, but also in performing surgical treatments safely.
