Abstract
In this paper, we propose a method to recognize hand gesture by measuring skin deformation of the back of the hand. The skin deformation is measured by several photo reflective sensors. We have developed a wearable device in which the photo sensors are arranged in an array. The skin deformation can be obtained by measuring the distance between the device and the skin with these photo sensors. The system estimates the hand gesture with Support Vector Machine (SVM) using the sensor data.
