Abstract

As appointed by many authorities, plastic theories must be used, in order to study more exactly the stresses due to the welding. From this point of view, the author reported the fundamental theory of plasticity under the three dimensional stresses in the previous reports. In this report, he discusses the general theories of welding stress as a kind of inherent stress known so far in the strength of materials. Chief points discussed in this report are as follows:(1) It is confirmed mathematically that the condition of continuity to the deformation are expressed, in the simply-connected zone, by the compatibility equation.(2) Neumann's equations to the thermo-elasticity are explained from the above idea and the fundamental equations to the thereto-plasticity have been led from the same idea.(3) Timoshenko's general analysis of the thermo-elasticity is extended to the thermo-plasticity. In the later reports, we are going to develop these theories to many kinds of welded joints.
