Abstract

Iron oxide pigments, such as hematite, goethite and magnetite particles are used as coloring material because of their suitable natural colors and chemical stability. Water-based paints with better dispersibility are strongly required in terms of environmental influence and for harmless handling recently. In this paper, we have investigated the coating by ether-modified poly siloxane onto iron oxide particles in order to improve the dispersibility in water-based paint. The coated iron oxide particles not only have better dispersibility but also good storage stability because of the larger negative charge on the modified siloxane coated particle surface in water-based paint.
