Abstract

Katmandu is a small city in the valley surrounded by the mountains higher than 1000m, and shows high air pollutant concentration in winter. This research aims at understanding the mechanism of the high concentration contamination generated in the Katmandu Valley by water tank model experiment. In this paper, the flow field in the water tank that simulates Katmandu Valley was observed by the image conversion PIV that was introduced as the technique of extracting the velocity near the uneven surface, and the measurement result that explained the pollution mechanism sufficiently was obtained.
