Abstract
Apoprotein A-I and B-100 containing particles were isolated by selective affinity columns prepared with monoclonal antibodies. The effect of obesity on the cholesterol and protein contents in these particles were studied in non-insulin dependent diabetic men and in non-diabetic men. In both groups, the plasma cholesterol values were less than 230mg/dl, and the plasma triglyceride values were less than 150mg/dl. The total cholesterol and protein contents in apoprotein A-I containing particles from each group were lower in the obese groups than in the non-obese groups. The total cholesterol and protein contents in apoprotein B-100 containing particles from each group were higher in the obese groups than in the non-obese groups. The ratio of cholesterol ester to free cholesterol in the apoprotein A-I and B-100 containing particles was lower in the obese groups. The cholesterol contents in the other lipoprotein fractions were higher in the obese groups.
