Abstract

Surveys were conducted to clarify the seasonal abundance and the spatial distribution of Longiunguis sacchari (ZEHENTNER) in sorghum fields. The aphids were most numerous on the oldest leaf of the plants, and three peaks of the population were found in mid-August, late September and mid- or late October in 1973, but only two peaks were observed in 1974. The population density in the center of the field in August was higher than that in the periphery, but this difference disappeared in October. The spatial distribution was analyzed by using the IWAO's method (1968). The result indicated an overdispersed distribution of the aphid colonies.
