Abstract

Although the Eastern Zhejiang School in Qing Dynasty is not famous for its parallel prose, its achievements in the field cannot be ignored. While the people of Eastern Zhejiang school held ancient prose in higher esteem, they did not abandon parallel prose. Over time, their near-neglect of parallel prose turned towards attention, their view of it from negative to positive. Parallel prosed was widely used forepitaphs and the commemoration of heroic figures. Both Huang Zongxi and Quan Zuwang honored great heroes and faithful souls, and had another work about the desire to go back to the place one spent his childhood. Zhang Xuecheng and Huang Shisan also shows the attention to the education of clan. Parallel prosed was widely used for epitaphs and the commemoration of heroic figures. As for the theory of parallel prose, they changed from the worship of learning and virtue to the respect of the Tao. The writing style''s features began to trend towards greater detail. The style of parallel prose experienced a change from Xu and Yu to Chunzui. The Eastern Zhejiang School experienced a change in the function of parallel prose, from one of empty criticism to one of expectation.
