Abstract
A necessary and sufficient condition for a complex graded manifold of dimension (1, 2) to be an N = 2 super Riemann surface is given and the uniqueness of the superconformal structure is proved as a consequence. The natural relationship between N = 1 and N = 2 super Riemann surfaces is considered.
