Abstract
The Theory /Praxis Nexus in the Musical Perception; Pitch as a Sociocultural Consensus This study focuses on musical perception in the context of theory / praxis nexus that presents theoretical framework for explaining the difference between theory and practice. It is carried out with an interdisciplinary approach due to the nature of ethnomusicology. Pitch, scale, makam (maqâm), rhythm and “notation” which are now considered as contemporary myth will be used as a case study in the context of musical theory. “Writing about music is like dancing on architecture” is a well known quotation to explain the difference between theory and practice. It seems that the difference is not a big problem for people in cultural context or musical tradition. On the contrary, reproduction of consensus is dynamically generated via musical practice.
