Mystery and history: when did Catherine the Great purchase the Lyde Browne collection?

Abstract

In the original article published in J Hist Collections; doi:10.1093/jhc/fhaa041 there was an error on page 4. The sentence ‘Catherine mentions some bronze casts after the antique sculptures (made in the St Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts in the 1770s or early 1780s from moulds sent from Rome), which were notable in size and colour.’ replaces that reading ‘Catherine mentions some bronze casts after sculptures from the Browne collection (made in the St Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts in the 1770s or early 1780s from moulds sent from Rome), which were notable in size and colour.’ This error has now been corrected online.
