Abstract

We have experiensed two cases of intussusception causing myoepithelial hamartoma. Case 1: A 73-year-old female was operated on for a gastric cancer (IIc type advanced cancer, P0, H0, n3, M0 in the rule for the Gastric Cancer Study in Japan), in July 1989. On August 14, 1990, she had abdominal pain suddenly and was diagnosed as strungulated ileus. Emergency operation was performed. It was ileo-ileal intussusception caused by a submucosal tumor 3cm in diameter of the ileum. Case 2: An one-year-old girl. These was a past history of receiving ileo-colic intussusception therapy by enema twice. This time intussusception occurred again, and enama was not effective. Emergency operation was performed. It was ileo-colic intussusception caused by a submucosal tumor 1cm in diameter locating about 30cm oral-side from the terminal ileum. Pathologically, these submucosal tumors were myoepithelial hamartoma, because neoplasmic growth in two segments (muscle and epithelium of the bowel) were recognized.
