Abstract

The literature concerning myocarditis in Friedreich's ataxia is briefly reviewed. Two cases of Friedreich's ataxia with marked electrocardiographic changes and apical diastolic murmurs are presented. Necropsy findings in one patient showed a diffuse interstitial myocarditis with nothing to identify a specific etiological basis. Both are presumed to be of the type associated with Friedreich's ataxia. It is concluded that a thorough cardiac study is indicated in patients with Friedreich's disease.
