Abstract

Intracoronary administration of isoprenaline and salbutamol to anaesthetized, open-chest dogs increased coronary flow and myocardial force. Isoprenaline was 3 to 8 times more potent than salbutamol as a coronary vasodilator and approximately 80 times more potent as an inotropic agent. These observations suggest that the coronary beta adrenotropic receptors resemble those of other vascular smooth muscle rather than those of cardiac muscle.
