Abstract

The relevance of the study is determined by the fact that Ukrainian musicology has no academic edition of the creative legacy of Mykola Leontovych. The purpose of the paper is to actualize the necessity of creating an academic edition with the Mykola Leontovych’s creative legacy. The article outlines the prospects for the development of research on the creative personality of N. Leontovich, in particular the issues of the "creative laboratory", the laws of the creative and thinking process, ideology and style, with further publication of the results in the academic edition. There also has been found the source with all publications with M. Leontovych's composer's legacy.The research methodology is based on a combination of principles of historicity, objectivity and comprehensiveness. Among the actual research tools were the source study approach and textual analysis, which were used for the study of the publications of notographic and verbal legacy of N. Leontovich and his autographs. In the article were analyzed the available in Ukrainian musicology editions of N. Leontovich's creative legacy from the point of view of its correspondence to the academic-type publication. A number of scientific problems related to the preparation of the academic edition of M. Leontovych’s works have been determined. The fact of absence in the scientific and performing practice of a significant part of the composer's legacy in the field of choral processing of folk songs - the leading genre of composer's creativity, and church music is ascertained. Possible reasons for the situation are mentioned, in spite of a significant number of publications, part of the composer’s legacy remains unpublished. The problem of the final text in M. Leontovych’s creative heritage is actualized, in particular concerning the discrepancy between the published text and the author’s text. Examples of deformation of the authentic author’s text on the verbal level («Memorable Book», choral poems «Summer Tones», «Ice-breaker») and notographic (choral song «Pipe-Man», original choral poem «Summer Tones») are given.
