Abstract

Summary We report a case of mycotic aneurysm of pulmonary artery secondary to Streptococcus intermedius pneumonia and empyema. A 77-yr-old male patient was admitted with left lower lobe pneumonia and empyema. He subsequently developed respiratory failure and required mechanical ventilation. After prolonged stay in intensive care unit his respiratory status improved and he was extubated. CT of chest with intravenous contrast showed left distal pulmonary artery aneurysm. The patient declined any intervention. Unfortunately, 2 days after extubation the patient developed massive hemoptysis and died.
