Abstract

The case of a 53 year old man with Salmonella typhimurium endocarditis of the mitral valve and an infected mycotic aneurysm of the femoral artery is presented. Focal glomerulitis, a pulmonary embolus and anemia were further complications. The patient recovered after a prolonged three and a half month course following excision of the infected aneurysm and vigorous therapy with parenteral ampicillin.Persistent fever and leukocytosis in a patient with salmonellosis, especially in a patient with an arteriosclerotic aneurysm or valvular heart disease, should suggest focal complications such as those seen in the present patient.
