Abstract

No correlation was detected between needle symptoms and the development of fine roots (branching) and mycorrhizas when observations were made of stands of Norway Spruce ( Picea abies) with slight and severe symptoms of forest decline in more or less acidic soils overlying sandstone or limestone. Irrespective of forest decline a greater diversity of types of mycorrhizas was observed in soils overlying limestone than in those over sandstone.
