Abstract

Mycoplasma hoministype 1 was isolated from amniotic fluid obtained at cesarean section. Section was performed three days following rupture of the membranes in an effort to salvage an infant from a mother in whom puerperal sepsis had developed. Other organisms could not be recovered from the amniotic fluid specimen nor could bacteria be isolated from the mother's blood. Respiratory distress syndrome developed in the infant and he died. On pathological examination the lungs revealed evidence of interstitial pneumonia. No bacteria or hyaline membranes were seen.
