Abstract
Variability among 23 isolates of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib) associated with root rot, stem rot and head rot of sunflower collected from different locations of Punjab is reported. The isolates varied in colony morphology, mycelial growth rate, sclerotium formation and sclerotia size. Variability among the isolates on the basis of mycelial compatibility was also observed. Five groups of isolates were identified based on cluster analysis. The field population of S. sclerotiorum was genetically heterogenous as lot of variation existed in cultural characters and mycelial incompatibility reactions.
