Abstract
Clinical data concerning twenty-nine myasthenia gravis patients were correlated with serological findings. The sera were examined for the presence of muscle antibodies by the antiglobulin consumption and indirect haemagglutination tests, and for thyroglobulin antibodies by indirect haemagglutination test. Positive reactions in the antiglobulin consumption test were found with 14 sera. The respective patients did not differ in any important clinical feature from the 15 seronegative. Positive reactions in the indirect haemagglutination test for muscle antibodies were obtained with 5 patient sera, including serum from one seronegative patient. Thyroglobulin antibodies occurred equally in sera from seronegative (3) and seropositive (3) patients. The theory of an immunological and a non-immunological form of myasthenia gravis was therefore not supported by clinical data.
