Abstract

Professor Yujiro Ikemi was one of the world's greatest leading psychosomatist, a pioneer of Asian wisdom, and a marvelous charismatic contributor of holistic medicine based on biopsychosocioecological foundation. I met him for the first time in 1977 during the Fourth International Congress of Psychosomatic Medicine in Kyoto. His lecture on “The integration of occidental and oriental psychosomatic treatment” was not only a masterpiece, but also the focus of congress. It was under his leadership and in this congress where East and West met and started a dialogue for enrichment of psychosomatic medicine. From then onward, he became my mentor, my teacher and a person in whom I can have absolute trust.
