Abstract

AbstractThe author, a pioneer in the field of business education and leadership coaching, was one of the closest confidantes and colleagues of Frances Hesselbein. He recounts details of their relationship, including how Frances introduced him to Peter Drucker in 1981, when Frances was CEO of the Girl Scouts of the USA, and Drucker was consulting for the organization on a pro bono basis. He also recounts deathbed visits with both Drucker, in 2005, and Frances, in 2022. “My last visit with Frances,” he writes, “illustrated to me why she was such a great human being. Her entire life was based in service to others; she devoted herself to being a professional. She never complained. She never whined, and it was always about us and not about her.”
