Abstract

Introduction: Patient education, exercise-therapy, and weight management (when indicated) are recommended as first-line care in guidelines for all people with knee osteoarthritis. These treatments are supported by >100 randomised trials, are cost-effective, and can reduce surgical need. Yet, guidelines and original research papers provide very little information for patients or clinicians on ‘how to’ implement first-line care. This may explain why many people with knee osteoarthritis’ feel ill informed about their condition and treatment options.
