Abstract

I have a real passion for working with children, and immense respect for the childcarers who look after them. I started out as a graphic designer, but when I became a single dad, it became impossible to find childcare to fit in with my working hours. I decided to become a childminder in 1977, so that I could look after my children and make a living at the same time. I found I really enjoyed working with children, I started working in a playgroup as well as childminding. I then went on to establish a mobile Toy Library – I wanted to work with childminders to promote their understanding of play-based learning.
