Abstract

ABSTRACT Described below are models for predicting crystallization temperatures of pure- and mixed-salt brines which can be used to calculate the solubility behavior of salt-containing fluids. The model predictions are compared to published mixing tables for heavy brine completion fluids and to crystallization temperatures measured in our laboratory. Examples are given of how the models have been used to formulate brine muds and to predict how much additional salt could be added to a produced brine mud to increase mud density without having excess solids.
