Abstract

A potential mutagenicity of ethylenethiourea (ETU) was investigated by a series of experiments including microbial, cytogenetic and dominant-lethal studies. The microbial studies revealed a weak mutagenic activity of ETU for Salmonella strain TA1535. However, cytogenetic studies in Chinese hamster Don cells in vitro and bone-marrow cells of rats in vivo and the dominant-lethal studies in mice failed to reveal any mutagenicity-inducing effect of ETU.
