Abstract

Mutagenesis in cyanophage LPP-1 was investigated with physical and chemical mutagens. Rapid lysis ( r), host range ( h) and temperature sensitivity ( ts) were studied. Mutations induced by ultraviolet irradiation in free phages were photoreactivable by visible light. The h and ts markers were efficiently induced by ultraviolet, N-methyl- N′-nitro- N-nitrosoguanidine, 2-aminogpurine and acriflavine under intracellular conditions, and r mutants by ultraviolet and photodynamic action of acriflavine. The conditions required for induction are described.
