Abstract

This study was carried out in apricot orchards in Mut, where is the center of early apricot grown in Turkey. The aim of study was to fallow the population dynamics of Mealy plum aphid[ Hyalopterus pruni (Geoffroy) (Homoptera: Aphididae)] during growing period and to determine some biological parameter to control this pest. At the end of this study, first nymphal stages of this pest were determined firstly at the first week of March and that time pentad temperature was over 12°C, relative humidity varied between 40.3%-62.6. The population of H. pruni increased steadily at the middle of May and reached highest level at June. But at the end of June, pest population decreased fastly and during July the population of this pest was very low because of natural enemies, low relative humidity and high temperature migration of this pest to bullrushes ( Phragmites spp.) the middle of July. Averaged number of this pest per leaf decreased until zero but during August- September it was 0.3 count / leaf, probably these aphids did not move and continued to feed on apricot. On the other hand, It was observed that the partly population of H. pruni was moved to apricot again during September to lay eggs for overwintering.
