Abstract

The 13th European Group for Intelligent Computing in Engineering EG-ICE held a workshop entitled “Intelligent Computing in Engineering and Architecture” between June 25 and June 30, 2006, in Monte Verita, Ascona, Switzerland. The workshop, sponsored by the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Centro Stefano Franscini, was geared toward researchers, interested in advanced computing applications in civil engineering and architecture. About 75 researchers and practitioners attended the workshop, which was chaired by Ian Smith from Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne EPFL , Switzerland. The workshop was organized in a single track, so participants could attend all workshop sessions. Each of the 16 sessions began with a 40-minute extended presentation that introduced the major theme of that session. The extended presentation in each session was followed by three to four 20-minute talks by leading researchers working in that area. Each session concluded with a panel discussion chaired by all speakers who made presentations in that session.
