Abstract

The West Kennet Long Barrow, a Neolithic passage grave, has stone chambers that function as Helmholtz Resonators. The chambers' resonant frequencies are investigated musically and found to be harmonically related. In common with other tombs of the period, there is a strong overall resonance of 110 Hz, as well as a subsonic component that produces psychological and possibly physiological effects on a listener that some might interpret as “paranormal.”
