Abstract

On the basis of the materials of the I. Sonevitskyi archive, three directions of his activity were analyzed: performing, organizing, and enlightenment as a correspondent on the Voice of America radio from the point of their importance for the development of Ukrainian culture. The most productive achievements from each direction were distinguished: Center for Ukrainian Musical Culture in Hunther, performing in nationally significant artistic events, cultural and musical programs on the Voice of America radio were founded. The methodology of the research combines the use of analytical, comparative and empirical methods of work, which allowed revealing the scale of organized projects, national features of various concert events, conceptualization of music radio programs. Their influence on the cultural status of the Ukrainian diaspora, preservation of national identity and significance in the national art treasury is determined. The scientific novelty of the article is the detailed elaboration of the contents of the archive materials: a script of radio programs "Voice of America", programs of concerts, season booklets, epistolary and video materials, which reflected the cultural and national peculiarities of I. Sonevitskyi's musical and educational activity. High professional level in the performance of the musician is revealed, clear patriotic ideas in organized concert projects are outlined, the content of numerous radio programs and their role in the formation of a solid cultural and artistic base in the Ukrainian diaspora are revealed. Conclusions. Musical enlightenment activity of I. Sonevitskyi is a testimony to his active work in various parts of the cultural and artistic life of the Ukrainian diaspora in North America. Collaboration with many prominent personalities, constant involvement in various roles contributed to the formation of a solid cultural and artistic base that met the needs of Ukrainians at that time. Therefore, all the efforts of I. Sonevitskywere subordinated to a clearly stated goal – the formation of "Little Ukraine" in North America.
