Abstract

Abstract: This column includes reviews of a four-volume opera anthology series organized by voice type (soprano, mezzo, tenor and baritone), by American composer Jake Heggie. Also reviewed are art song settings of the poetry of Harlem Renaissance poet Langston Hughes: "Dream Variations" by American composer Mark Carlson, and "Three Dream Portraits and Three Original Songs" by Margaret Bonds; the latter appears in an edition by scholar Louise Toppin.
