Abstract

The current level of traffic accidents in Indonesia is still relatively high. One of the most significant factors in traffic accidents is fatigue. Fatigue can reduce the level of alertness and response while driving. Therefore, countermeasures are needed to reduce the perceived fatigue. Listening to music is regarded as one of the countermeasures to fatigue. This study aimed to determine the effect of music on driver fatigue. ANOVA method was used in this study to assess the significance of driving fatigue by listening to music (Pop genre). This study used the experimental design on 30 respondents with an age range of 20 - 44 years, using an Electroencephalogram (EEG) and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). The results of this study indicate that music has a significant effect on driver fatigue with a percentage decrease in fatigue after listening to music reaching 12% in the 26 - 44 year age group and 22% in the 20-25 age group. The fatigue dropped significantly occurs at minute 5 when the respondent listens to the music.
