Abstract
Zoltan Kodaly, a Hungarian composer who revolutionised the teaching of music to young children, believed that music fosters self-discipline and a sense of community. Katalin Forrai, in her study of Kodaly's methods entitled Music in Pre-school, tells how Kodaly thought that: ‘Music has such a strong infl uence on personal development that it affects the entire personality. Music of value makes the individual sensitive to beauty and forms (the child's) tastes and attitudes.’
